After a jam-packed 2022, MAY-A has returned with her brand new single and video, Sweat You Out My System.
Sweat You Out My System heralds a new era for MAY-A, where she’ll be exploring and experimenting with new sounds and experiences. The single toes the line between sultry and punchy and is “a structured collage of rap-style moments, guitar riffs, yelling and hooks.” This is the track that opened up new doors in her brain to other types of music she’s excited to make and share with the world. “I’m fascinated with manipulating my voice and getting weirder with visuals,” MAY-A says.
“I feel drawn to aesthetics from the 70s Sex Pistols era and the early 00s New York scene. If DON’T KISS UR FRIENDS felt like Clairo / Claud / indie-pop-singer, I hope the next project sits in more of an 070 Shake / Remi Wolf / beabadoobee / Role Model / Kevin Abstract world.”
“Sweat You Out My System is pretty up-front lyrically, it plays on the idea of being completely addicted to someone; ‘Missing you like a little kid/ waiting for you to get back/I wish for you in my veins/so addicted it’s insane’. The whole song stays on theme of the feeling of trying to ‘quit’ someone (hence – sweating them out like drugs), because f**k going back!”
MAY-A is currently opening for Wallows on the UK and European leg of their tour. This follows an incredibly successful 2022 for MAY-A which saw her collaborate with Flume on their ARIA nominated single Say Nothing performing alongside him on his US and Australian headline tour as well as joining him on stage at Coachella and Gov Ball. Rounding out 2022, MAY-A opened for 5 Seconds of Summer on their Australian headline tour in November / December and performed at Falls Festival and Lost Paradise.
