ASHA JEFFERIES Returns With Powerful New Single ‘Tank Tops’

Asha Jefferies shares her first new music for 2022, with the release of introspective pop gem Tank Tops. Produced and mixed by Sam Cromack of Ball Park Music, the single comes at an exciting time for Jefferies, who recently announced her signing for management to Sunroom (sweater curse, Hope D, Bugs) and is preparing for a 12-date national tour supporting Noah Dillon, and a showcase at BIGSOUND this September.

Played first by triple j, the new single, Tank Tops was written in a time of tremendous change and discovery for Asha. She explains, “It’s a song that means so many things to me – it’s personal, it’s about my identity, but it also marks a distinct change in how I make music. A new producer in Sam Cromack, a new band collaborating and letting it be an intuitive process when it comes to recording – community has played a huge part in this story. Most of all, this song is incredibly personal. It’s a song about entering a new phase in my life and how my queer identity has taught me to love.”

Asha Jefferies is best known for her sombre, melancholy pop songs – combining the patience of folk with the urgency of youth. Her 2021 EP ‘The Pinnacle’ was a coming of age release for the artist and songwriter; a culmination of soft glowing idiosyncratic sounds and classic folk arrangements, featuring the single Crybaby, which was added to rotation across triple j, Double J and triple j Unearthed.

Jefferies has previously shared the stage with Julia Jacklin, Lime Cordiale and City and Colour and played festival slots at Bluesfest, Woodford Folk and Mullum Music Festival. She won a Queensland Music Award, triple j Unearthed‘s NIDA Competition and has been a finalist for both the Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition and the International Songwriting Competition (ISC). Asha and her band will lap the country this September as main support on Noah Dillon‘s national album tour.
