BAD WEATHER Unveil Nostalgic Cut ‘Flowers In Your Room’

Boorloo/Perth-based alt-pop act Bad Weather have returned with a sparkling new single Flowers In Your Room – produced by lead singer Callum Robertson and mixed by Mark McEwen of Underground Recording Studio. The track is from their upcoming EP of the same name – due Friday, August 12.

Bad Weather have blended 90’s guitar pop and indie-emo vocals to create a lush sonic atmosphere that takes the listener on a journey through sweet guitar riffs and unshakeable drums. Evoking the emotional turbulence of a 90’s teen movie, Flowers In Your Room sees the dynamics shift and sway through dazzling instrumentation before Callum pours his heart out in the bridge. The track is a wistful and exciting offering from the band and is testament to their unwavering passion for the craft.

Callum explains the process of writing Flowers In Your Room: “Flowers In Your Room is one of the few songs I’ve written that started on an acoustic guitar. My writing process almost always starts on a laptop, but I had the main chords of the song and would just play them over and over again and hum to myself. The song is about the breakdown of a relationship and learning to navigating the emotions you feel throughout that process. Like a lot of the songs on the EP, it was written during the first lockdown where everyone was thrust into this new reality of living in the confines of four walls. It was a really emotional time for me, so I just locked myself away and wrote a heap of music.”

Alongside the song is a romantic accompanying video – directed by Kori Reay-Mackey and filmed by Elliot Nieves (The Faim). Shot in various locations across Boorloo/Perth, the video displays sweet, intimate scenes juxtaposed with lugubrious moments of heartbreak, which perfectly capture the rollercoaster of a troubled relationship. “All of the interior scenes were filmed on the same day, as were the exterior scenes. The challenge was evoking a passage of time through costuming, subtle production design changes and lighting to evoke a sense of feeling of history, whereas the exterior shots had consistently changing weather, ranging from rainy and overcast to bright and sunny.”

The band will soon be heading off on a national tour, supporting fellow Boorloo/Perth-based rockers The Faim, followed by an EP launch at Jack Rabbit Slims in August. In the live arena, Bad Weather have sold out a headline show and shared the stage with the likes of End of FashionDeath By DenimYoung Robin, and Boat Show

Previous singles were widely embraced by the likes of Australian radio stations triple j Unearthed, RTR FM and 4ZZZ, as well as blog support from Pilerats and X-Press Magazine.
