Red Bull today announces Goodna rapper Lisi will unite with Queensland Symphony Orchestra for Red Bull Symphonic, a two worlds collide, one-night-only performance at Brisbane’s Princess Theatre on June 25.
For the launch of Red Bull Symphonic in 2022, Red Bull enlists the 4300 postcode-proud, Meanjin / Brisbane-based Lisi to collaborate with the 25-piece Queensland Symphony Orchestra, reimagining his catalogue of impacting works in a uniquely magical setting all while championing his hip-hop roots.
Lisi has said of his work,“I definitely feel like I was born for this. I want to make sure my songs are always pushing a message. No one really gives us a chance where I’m from – people view Goodna and Ipswich as an area filled with crime and thugs, and I want to show everyone that it’s not the case. Our area is a thriving community of arts, music, culture and community and I’m really proud of where I’m from. Being able to share our stories in a venue like The Princess Theatre, being backed by Queensland Symphony Orchestra, it’s going to be a show I’ll never forget. Thanks to Red Bull for making it happen!”
Joining the spectacular showcase will be SELAH Samoan Gospel choir and drummers, who contribute to Lisi’s exploration of his own Samoan pride. Hand-picked by Lisi himself, appearing as special guests across the evening will also be fellow Brisbane rapper, NOKZ and vocalist, Faith Sosene, alongside Lisi’s crew, Th4 W3st. Conducting on the night will be award-winning, highly-sought after composer, conductor and arranger, Nick Buc. Having worked at some of the world’s most prestigious festivals and theatres, and alongside artists including Nick Cave, Warren Elis, Mo’Ju and The Avalanches, Buc brings a wealth of experience to his orchestration of Lisi’s beloved works.
Growing up in Brisbane’s outer-fringes of Goodna, the Gold-accredited New-Zealand born Lisi has utilised Instagram and YouTube to bolster a worldwide fanbase, with more than 40 million streams and 20 million views to his name. Through soul-searching raps on everyday life, Lisi captures the voices of those who defy stereotypes and bolsters the message of positivity and role models for the next generation, as they seek to seize and boost the number of opportunities on offer. In 2020, the rapper made his debut on Red Bull 64 Bars, spreading his message of hope through fire-speed raps. The following year, he released his debut album ‘Perspective’, nine songs dedicated to those who helped him pave his path and rapping honestly to a life lived so far.
As Red Bull joins two differing worlds of music this June, secure your ticket today to witness Red Bull Symphonic, a one-of-a-kind experience taking place from Brisbane’s iconic Princess Theatre with star performers and music visionaries, Lisi and Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
