MoonDoll Festival Q&A Series: Link Bossman of PISTONFIST

Words/Interview: Shannon-Lee Sloane {The Colourful Writer}

With MoonDoll Music Festival this weekend, we’ve taken some time to swing some messages to some of the bands and artists on the bill to ask them about the upcoming event and live music festivals in general, as well as some other questions to get to know them a little better! Next up we have the Bossman himself, Linnk Bossman – the man on the bass for Brisbane’s hard rockin’, no bullshit, all good shit, four piece masterpiece of a band, PistonFist.

How excited are you to play MoonDoll Festival this year?

We are frothing to play MoonDoll this year as we have waited so long to play it! It’s gonna be a cracker of a day with an awesome line up.🤘🤘

How crazy do you think I am for putting on a music festival in 2021?

We know you’re crazy and we wouldn’t have expected anything less from you, so putting on a festival in 2021 is right up you alley! 😜

How do you feel about music festivals in general?

Music festivals are an awesome way to catch bands you my not have heard or would probably not go an see, I always find a new band whenever I go to a festival.

What is the best music festival you’ve ever been to? Name the festival, the year, and the highlights of the event!

Arrrr tough one.. I reckon the best music festival was Livid Festival 2003 it was over 3 cities as I was the travelling tattooist backstage with a good friend of mine Andy Christ. We would set up backstage in different band rooms and tattoo and well you know what use to go on in those days😂🤣😅 the highlight of the tour was getting kicked out of Linkin Parks room for drinking all there rider🤙 But it was an awesome tour.

If you could play a festival with any band or artist in the whole world, who would it be and why?

If I could play any festival it would be Wacken Open Air I was there in the 90s when it was just 1 football field and now…holy shit it’s so awesome, at the time of writing this we would have to play with Bewitched as they are my favourite at the moment.

If you could create your own all star line up for a huge music festival, who would be your top five headlining bands?

If I was to put on a festival and money was no a problem and I could reunite members , my top 5 would be 3 Inches of Blood , Anti-Nowhere League, Ghost, Twisted Sister and White Zombie.

Who are you most excited to see at MoonDoll this year?

There are so many cracker bands on this year, I’m excited to see the Slurpee Jerks, EAT CITY., ANTY!, and the mighty Massic, but also pumped to see some new bands I haven’t seen too.

Who would you like to see on MoonDoll next year?

MoonDoll next year I’d like to see some of Melbourne’s finest Remains, True Believer and High As Hell, very underrated Aussie bands.

If you/your band was asked to include one cover song in your set, what song would you choose and why?

We are a band with a lot of different taste in music, I can’t speak for the rest of the band but at the moment if we were asked to play a cover for MoonDoll I would pick. Mean Man by W.A.S.P. Its a cracker of a get up an fuck you kinda song . It’s just in my rotation at the moment🤘🤘🤘

How do you feel about mixed genre festivals and gigs?

My opinion on mixed gig is, well PistonFist plays with anyone. We are there to give you a cracker of a time, no matter what genre your into.  I think the days of only liking one genre is a thing of the past. The internet has opened the world up. Back in my day you would have tape trading pals all over the world and that was how I was finding new music. Now, if you have a night free just go on the internet and I’m always finding something.

Who is your favourite local band?

My favourite local band at the moment is definitely The Automaton, I literally can’t wait for this album to drop, I’m supper excited for it.. bring on the 8th October 🤘🤘🤘🤘

Who is your favourite Australian band of all time?

My favourite Aussie band of all time, I just can’t pick one…. So Baby Animals. Damaged. Rose Tattoo. Hoodoo Gurus. Hitmen. Radio Birdmen. Front End Loader. There’s just so many cracker Aussie bands and I love ’em all.

If you could give your fans and followers words of wisdom or a motto, what would it be?

I’m definitely not the person for this but if I could give some words of wisdom to our fans an followers , it would be leave ya ego at the door and just have some fun, we’re a community that should stick together and look after each other.
