MoonDoll Festival Q&A Series: PLANT BASED DISGRACE

Words/Interview: Shannon-Lee Sloane {The Colourful Writer}

With MoonDoll Music Festival just around the corner, we’ve taken some time to swing some messages to some of the bands and artists on the bill to ask them about the upcoming event and live music festivals in general, as well as some other questions to get to know them a little better! Next up we have Brisbane Cabaret Punk Duo, Plant Based Disgrace!

How excited are you to play MoonDoll Festival this year?

To the moon and back! We’re so keen to finally go ahead. Can’t wait to bother some real bands into being new friends with us!

How crazy do you think I am for putting on a music festival in 2021?

Not crazy, just brave! We’re incredibly lucky there are people like you fighting for live gigs.

How do you feel about music festivals in general?

Sad that our big ones have/are dying out. While not exactly accessible for local bands, bar maybe 1 or 2, it’s a one-of-a-kind experience for punters that feels unlikely to return anytime soon.

What is the best music festival you’ve ever been to? Name the festival, the year, and the highlights of the event!

Probably my first festival, Big Day Out… 2013? The Killers played an insane set, my first time in a crowd like that and it blew my mind. Green Day had a 3-hour set and by the 2.5-hour mark Billy Joe was laying on the ground strumming Waltzing Matilda because they were out of songs, but contractually obligated to keep playing… And so many more shenanigans… not a day or a sunburn I’ll forget!

If you could play a festival with any band or artist in the whole world, who would it be and why?

Oooo I think between the two of us we couldn’t choose between Brendan Urie or Fall Out Boy.
The emo vein still runs deep within us, allll the way back to 2006.

If you could create your own all star line up for a huge music festival, who would be your top five headlining bands?

Only five?! Lizzo, Tim Minchin, Bo Burnham, Amanda Palmer and Taylor Swift. Give me dueling pianos and flutes and guitars!!!

Who are you most excited to see at MoonDoll this year?

Everyone!!! But I’d love to meet V from Vamped Up again!

Who would you like to see on MoonDoll next year?

Dazey, Wakan Phoenix, FriendlyFire, Northern Lights

If you/your band was asked to include one cover song in your set, what song would you choose and why?

We’re very slow song writers, so we do usually include a cover in our set to make sure we fill our time, otherwise, we go on tangents with each other and sometimes the audience on stage haha. We change it up for different gigs but most often we cover What’s Up by The 4 Non-Blondes.

How do you feel about mixed genre festivals and gigs?

100% for them! Especially if it means more gigs by joining our efforts!

Who is your favourite local band?

DAZEY, without a doubt <3

Who is your favourite Australian band of all time?

Jay loves The Hard Aches but Sharmanee’s is Short Stack.

If you could give your fans and followers words of wisdom or a motto, what would it be?

Do no harm, take no shit!
