Armed to the teeth with crushing metal soundscapes and a weighted philosophical curiosity, Perth post-metal outfit Neomantra come at you from all angles, delivering heavy-hitting knockout combos that are screaming to be experienced within their debut EP ‘Henosis’, out TODAY – September 3!
Using their unflinching brand of earth-shattering sounds, Neomantra have crafted a profound five-track EP (co-produced by Drew Goddard of Karnivool) that deliberates sage ontological notions, centred around the concept of balance – looking inwards, reaching outwards and wrestling between the darkness and the light.
The band further explain: “The EP was constructed with balance in mind, as a central recurring theme throughout. Lyrical content has therefore been used sparsely to bring equilibrium to the tracks rather than a predominant focus being placed on the lyricist. However, enough lyrical content is applied to effectively tell the story of each song.”
Opening the EP is lead single Solipsism, crashing squarely between the eyes with dense, slashing riffs and haunting melodic passages, alongside frontman Royce Zanetic’s roaring vocals. Splintered with existentialism, the track induces simultaneous bouts of energised self-reflection and whiplash.
Next, Emancipation breaks through the shackles of the metaphysical self with cutting riffs that continue to detonate throughout the song, set off by relentlessly aggressive drumming and bellowing vocals that insist on liberation from limitations of the mind.
Dualism finds us at a pivotal segue, delivering a two-part, dual-style instrumental movement that acts as the gooey centre within the EP’s tough outer shell. Handheld percussion, chimes and drifting strings send chills up the spine, conveying the philosophical balancing of dark and light, beauty and sorrow.
Finding another gear, The Absolute is a densely packed doom-metal anthem that kicks you in the gut with a plethora of cutting-edge guitar riffs and bellowing screams, aiming to reflect the intense headspace of someone attempting to find the source of their supreme reality.
Closing out the EP is Plato’s Shadows, a weighted track inspired by the Greek philosopher’s efforts to perceive the higher levels of reality. The song moves like the shifting shadows in Plato’s tale, with towering breakdowns, sharply contrasting tempo changes and grit-filled vocals, eventually closing the book on this philosophical journey, for now.
