“Debbies coming out with an absolute honker to kick off 2020! The blokes levelling up with this crunched ‘n fried burly rocker. (4.5 Stars)”
Dave Ruby Howe, Triple j Unearthed
“I’ve got lots of big time yews for this one boys. Way to nail your first release for 2020. I’m ready to take over the world with this track as the soundtrack. (4.5 Stars)”
Claire Mooney, Triple j
“Money is a thrashing three-minutes that feels like a snapshot of what’s to come, full of rushing guitar riffs and pacing percussion that moves amongst these kind-of relaxed yet reflective vocals”

Jervis Bay duo Debbies unveil their new single Sinner today. The new track illustrates why this young Aussie surf punk band have in 2 short years already achieved so much – winning the Yours and Owls Festival (2019), Triple j Unearthed High Finalists (2019) as well as performing at Falls Festival and Bigsound.

When writing the single, Debbies wanted to capture a more ‘word-painting’ esque vibe by incorporating the river scenery throughout the verses which stemmed from a real experience of when they went to a party a few years ago.

“Sinner deals with the struggles of getting caught up with trying to be someone you’re not and coming to the realisation that you don’t have to be anyone but yourself. The whole time we felt like we were trying to be people we weren’t (which felt like a sin) so we left the party, walked down the road and found a riverbank where we spent the rest of the night drinking and having a good time by ourselves. We actually had the chorus for the song for ages, and then after mucking around with the guitar line at the start and trying to write about that experience at the river, everything just fell into place.”Debbies

Sinner is the follow up to Triple j favourites Money, Influencer and Waking Up In L.A. The track came together at Defwolf Studios Sydney with mixing and mastering by George Georgiadis. “In the studio we wanted to really make the bridge a special moment in the song so we played around with different synths and ways of layering drums and vocals that we had never done before. The result felt like some dreamy vocal layered questioning of “is it hard to be like somebody else” that snaps out into an answer in the last pre chorus.”

Don’t miss Debbies supporting Teenage Joans on their tour later in October!

“We couldn’t be more stoked to be releasing Sinner in the midst of supporting Teenage Joans on their national EP Tour. The shows are by far the biggest shows we’ve lucked out on and we’d definitely consider TJ’s some of our best friends in the music biz. It really feels too good to be true!” Debbies

Sinner is released TODAY – Friday August 13
