HIATUS KAIYOTE Performs On NPR’S Tiny Desk Concert Series

Today, Hiatus Kaiyote shares their NPR Tiny Desk concert session, directed by Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore. On a set housing a kaleidoscope of colour, mystical creatures, and plush surroundings, the performance features the tracks Sip Into Something Soft, Rose Water, And We Go Gentle, Get Sun and Blood and Marrow from the band’s recently released album, ‘Mood Valiant‘, which  Pitchfork  has called their “best album yet.”

Nai shares about how the set for the Tiny Desk performance all came together, “I’m a treasure hunter at heart, and the beautiful thing about dressing a set with sentimental artifacts from my house is that I feel super comfy to perform. Simon came up with the colour scheme and our dear friend Claudia helped bring it to life. All the costumes were handmade by friends in our community for the Get Sun video and we decided to incorporate them last minute which makes it kinda like a fever dream, but super fun.”

The aforementioned album was released via Brainfeeder Records / Ninja Tune after a six-year period where the band toured, wrote, and recorded before landing in Rio de Janeiro in 2019, which led them to work with legendary Brazilian arranger Arthur Verocai. The result is an album, bookended by Verocai’s strings, that relaxes into a groove: sunlit, beguiling, masterful. Behind everything is Hiatus’ familiar sense of musical adventure, their knack for making the complex sound simple, evident in previously-released singles Get Sun, Chivalry Is Not Dead and Red Room which saw them receive co-signs from Kehlani, Doja Cat and Virgil Abloh, among others. Debuting at #4 on the ARIA Albums Charts, and receiving praise from Pitchfork, Dazed, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, NPR and more, the album is a follow up to their critically acclaimed 2015 album ‘Choose Your Weapon‘.

Taking the album on the road, Hiatus Kaiyote will continue on their ‘Mood Valiant’ Australian tour from September, visiting Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Canberra, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane. The band are also scheduled to play the rescheduled Bluesfest in Byron Bay come October. Visit Hiatus Kaiyote’s Official Store for more information.
