Brisbane’s metalcore crew APATE have gifted us a new single in Liar’s Tongue, lifted from their new EP, ‘Rage’, out now via Human Warfare.
An assured yet measured melodic offering, Liar’s Tongue is an exercise in restraint as it floats in with a grinding guitar undercurrent and somber vocals, revealing a bold new side to APATE that’s been a long time in the making.
“As soon as I heard Liar’s Tongue I knew it would be one of our best releases to date,” starts co-vocalist Zak Ludwig, “the dissonant mood it sets gives me chills. Caleb’s vocals really complement this track and it would have to be his best performance. This is a direction we’ve been thinking about heading for a while, so I’m very excited to create more tracks like Liar’s Tongue.”
Liars Tongue is also the song that piqued the interest of Andy Marsh (Thy Art Is Murder), leading to the band joining the Human Warfare family:
“Ultimately, Liar’s Tongue is the tune that convinced me I had to sign APATE. I had heard the heavier songs from the EP and was super into them but just found myself wanting to hear some extra dynamic, a little special something that hit in a different way. Low and behold, on a nice walk around a lake, Liar’s Tongue popped up in the sequence of demos and I heard melancholy hooks, mature restraint and expert songwriting that instantly had me chasing more of that sound.”
Growing into their patchworked sonic skin, APATE are a band who bleed out their experiences, with their songs reflecting a chaos of the mind. APATE‘s new EP, ‘Rage’, is a visceral warts and all insight to the darkest times of the co-frontmen, every emotion is thoroughly purged through cataclysmic song sections expertly produced by Sean Delander (Thy Art Is Murder) at Sledgehammer Studio.
Of the EP, Blunt Mag said it “demonstrates the band’s masterful handle on composing forward-thinking and above all else, interesting metalcore”, while Hysteria Mag declared, “Rage is not only one of the most refreshing sounds to come out of Australian metal in a while, it’s also an AOTY contender, which is something rarely said about an EP”. But Wall of Sound summed it up best, asserting “APATE have created a powerful and influential EP”.
APATE will debut ‘Rage’ live at Halloween Hysteria later this year.
