PETE CULLEN & THE HURT Release Bluesy Country Bop ‘Old Man River’

Coming from an already highly successful career, Peter Cullen returns to fans alongside his band The Hurt to deliver an absolute banger of country track Old Man River. Remaining true to his usual style, Cullen and the band continue to deliver blues vibes within their tracks and continue to experiment within the country genre. Peter drew inspiration for the track from old childhood memories with family or friends on boats, fishing, camping, singing songs and telling stories around a camp fire which all stemmed from growing up so close to the water. The song draws heavy metaphor to the run of the river being very similar to life’s journey.

With the writing process for this song occurring across Wagga Wagga, Memphis & Peter‘s house in Brisbane, the group finally got together to record this at Pete‘s house with the horns added being done by legendary jazz saxophonist Paul Williamson in Melbourne. The track was mixed by multi golden guitar mix engineer Matt Fell (Troy Casser-Daley, Brad Cox).

Honing his craft in Blues Rock outfit the Daybridges from 2000 – 2006, Pete developed as a solo artist, with the first of his five albums, ‘Tom Whisky Blues’being recorded with the Rockwiz Orkastra in 2012 the other four with members of The Hurt. Pete Cullen & The Hurt formed in 2013 when they became a resident band at Lefty’s Music Hall in Brisbane, remaining one still to the current day.

Pete has been a 5 time finalist of the QMusic Awards and his songs have been featured on MTV, CMC and RAGE, high rotation on Triple J, ABC National, 4ZZZ, Triple R, PBS, FBI and various community radio stations across Australia.   He has appeared alongside You Am ISpiderbaitLee KernghanBusby MarouTroy Cassar-Daley and the Hoodoo Gurus.
