“A classic pop-rock track, the single melds jangly keys and a steady groove with upbeat, singable lyrics, culminating in a lighthearted, easy listening ditty.”– Beat Magazine
We may not be able to travel too far right now, but Melbourne outfit The Hackkets are inviting you to escape with them nonetheless in the new video for their fresh track I Love To Travel. The recently released single has warmed the cockles of new and returning fans’ hearts with its instantaneous groove and classic pop-rock road trip vibes. Now, teaming up with animation designers Todd Watts and Nick Fox, the proud Melbourne west-siders are thrilled to present the single’s bright new video accompaniment. The Hackkets are releasing the video in the lead-up to their upcoming hometown single launch as part of the rescheduled West Set festival at beloved Footscray venue, Hotel Westwood this August.
Postcards, landmarks, singing camels and space expeditions abound, as each of The Hackkets’ six band members dance and frolic their way across the globe and beyond. Using collage and stop motion animation with photography by Gianna Rizzo, the video is a fun, immersive and wonderfully nostalgic encapsulation of I Love To Travel’s infectious energy and charisma. One of the act’s lead singers and songwriters, Peter Tolhurst commended the animators for their creative approach to the clip, “It was a great experience working with Todd on this project. The final product was surprising in a good way. Would like to work on future projects with him. AAA rating for me.” While fellow songwriter and vocalist Stuart Flenley summed it up perfectly with his short and sweet praise, “I have but three words to describe this animation, which are: It absolutely rocks!”
“Teaming up with The Hackkets during lockdown in 2020, the goal was to recreate the magic of travel in a style that reflected the band. Travelling isn’t all buttoned up tours and fancy hotels, it’s an adventure, it’s wild and it’s fun! Just like a travel scrapbook, we wanted to use collaged images, animated text and plenty of layering to create a unique, fast-paced music video to match the energy of the song.”– Todd Watts, Animator
As a live act, The Hackkets are an absolute force to be reckoned with. Each of its six members bring their own indispensable musicianship and style to the fore, crafting a wholly unique sound both in the studio and on stage. Singers Stuart Flenley (guitar/vox), Peter Tolhurst (guitar/vox) and Victoria Cini (keys/vox), bring three distinctly different approaches to the songs they co-write in the band. Stuart merges his twin heroes Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra with a sense of humour that invariably breaks through, while Victoria has crafted her own ‘Rock Chick’ persona through which she projects a rebel without a cause for the smart-phone generation. Drummer Andrew Paganella has been keeping The Hackkets in time since 1999, and rounding out the band are Melbourne singer/songwriter Tim Reid on guitar and Joe Vella on bass and backing vocals.
After performing at such notable festivals as Adelaide Fringe Festival, Seddon Festival, Maribyrnong Inclusive Recognition Awards (MIRA), Murrindindi Festival and more, The Hackkets are gearing up for their first live show of 2021 this August. Join in the celebrations as the band launch I Love To Travel with a free West Set show and screening of their animated music video at Hotel Westwood, Footscray during the rescheduled West Set Festival from 19 – 29 August. Stay tuned for the new show date!
