ELKI Returns With New Single ‘Spend Your Life’

Sydney singer-songwriter ELKI is today thrilled to unveil her latest single Spend Your Life – a Scandinavian inspired powerful pop anthem for anyone with obsessive compulsive disorder.

After working in a mental health institution during 2020, ELKI wanted to return to music with a bundle of songs, kicking it off with “something different and important… a mental health song that jump-starts action and gets you out of a rut.”

Teaming up with world renowned producer Konstantin Kersting (Tones and I, Mallrat), ELKI recorded the song during lockdown.“Konstantin and I bonded over our love of Scandi-pop.”

She had previously recorded a tune with Konstantin which had been shortlisted in the Eurovision decides competition. Coronavirus halted plans, so ELKI gave her tune to Dami Im to use as a lead single, and worked with her on it during 2020.

Spend Your Life opens with a swelling bagpipe drone, plucked strings and a striking vocal. Scandi-inspired intimate verses then sweep into a festival-ready chorus hailing straight from the ice-capped mountains – with an ear-worm of a hook.

ELKI recommends the best listening conditions for Spend Your Life“It’s a song to listen to while you’re moving. Get up from your desk and jump in your car. Blast it with the windows down, with fresh night air on a lonely freeway.”

In conjunction with the release of Spend Your Life, ELKI will perform at Bounce Back Festival in January 2021. The ‘mini moving music festival’ is a new, unique concept that will see artists play from the back of a kombi van while free ice creams are handed out, showcasing their live sets in an innovative and Covid-safe way.

If you love Aurora, Sigrid and Montaigne, you’ll love ELKI.
With only her debut EP ‘Extended Play’ released, ELKI has already been feted by the likes of Stereogum, Pop Justice and Indie Shuffle. As an entirely independent artist, ELKI has achieved BBC Radio 1 play for her debut single Sirens, triple j rotation on tracks Golden Age, Thunder and Beautiful Mess, and stellar reviews from media at home in Australia, and in the United States and United Kingdom.
Notably, her single Movie received praise by acclaimed lyricist Sir Tim Rice and songs off her EP have recently received syncs across television and film. Extending her prowess beyond the studio, ELKI toured along the East Coast of Australia in 2019, playing to her growing and passionate fan base at sold out shows. She has also toured with Bec Sandridge and has performed shows and festivals with acts such as I know Leopard, Thandi Phoenix, Ngaiire and Thelma Plum. Her long term plan when life opens up again is to tour in Sweden/Norway and do writing sessions in Stockholm.
