Sydney duo PLGRMS’ newest instalment, the powerful and driving single Good Friends, has been delivered alongside the news of the band’s highly anticipated debut EP, ‘CHAPTER I’, arriving Friday 4th December.
Good Friends follows recent singles Limbs and Disappear, and further showcases the dark and evocative sonic mastery of multi-instrumentalist Johnathan Bowden, and singer-songwriter Jacob Pearson.
Talking about the track, Pearson says “This song isn’t cryptic. It’s not hiding any double meanings. It’s just about recognising that one of two things could happen. And being friends isn’t one of them.”
The track passed through a stellar cast to bring it to life, produced by Ross James aka upsidedownhead (Vera Blue / EʌST / Thelma Plum), mixed by Dan Grech (Radiohead / Lana Del Rey / Halsey), and mastered by Leon Zervos (Amy Shark / Dope Lemon) with The Preature’s Luke Davison on drums.
Good Friends is the third reveal since PLGRMS’s long awaited return earlier this year, following a forced hiatus in early 2019 as a result of singer Jake Pearson’s battle with chronic pain. It arrives as the next instalment of the band’s forthcoming collection of songs due out in December, with 2021 carrying the promise of more new music from the duo.
PLGRMS is the brainchild of Sydney based singer-songwriter Jacob Pearson, and multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Jonathan Bowden.
The duo was forged during Bowden’s search for the “voice” that would bring the new music he had written to life. After fatefully stumbling across a YouTube video of Pearson, a humble Central Coast troubadour, the search was over and PLGRMS was formed.
Combined, Pearson and Bowden make a powerful team. The pulsing synths, charging beats and emotive vocals of their songs have amassed over 10 million streams online to date, with many of their singles charting on Spotify Viral Charts across the globe. PLGRMS have received radio support from the like of Triple J, BBC Radio 6, Radio X and Beats1. In addition to this, they have also caught the keen eye of many online tastemakers such as Earmilk, The Line Of Best Fit, Stereogum and Hillydilly, and supported the likes of Vera Blue, Dean Lewis, Mansionair, Lastlings, and TORA.
Following a forced hiatus as a result of chronic back pain suffered by Pearson, PLGRMS returned to the musical sphere in April with their gorgeous and moody new single Disappear, followed up by the brooding Limbs. With their new release Good Friends out now, and plans for more new music to follow, PLGRMS will no doubt be one of the most talked about bands this year.
