GIVING FANS EXCLUSIVE ACCESS TO A DECADE OF FLIGHT FACILITIES DJ MIXES, EDITS & BOOTLEGS
+ SHARE NEW ‘1962-1972 DECADE MIX’
AVAILABLE VIA THE APP
ARIA-award winning high fliers, Flight Facilities, today celebrate a decade as Australia’s favourite songwriting duo, by sharing their new app, Flight Deck. Available on iOS and Android, the app gives fans free and exclusive access to a decade of Flight Facilities content – unreleased tracks, mixtapes, remixes, DJ sets and impossible-to-find bootlegs. To launch Flight Deck, the duo share a brand new ‘1962-1972’ instalment, as a prequel to their famed ‘Decade Mixes’, premiered via a Triple J Mix-Up takeover and available to stream exclusively via the app.
The app creation is motivated largely by a lack of permanent space to share their hugely-requested edits, hidden secrets, and unofficial remixes from countless live shows and DJ appearances. That, combined with their love for the pre-algorithm era of DJ discovery culture, Jimmy Lyell and Hugo Gruzman will upload exclusive content to Flight Deck, for fans to hear first. The app is split into three categories: Mixes, Tracks and Selects – all powered by an intelligent music player, akin to any other streaming service.
Premiered via a special Flight Facilities takeover of Triple J Mix-Up, the pair today share a new chapter in their celebrated ‘Decade Mixes’, adding an hour-long set spanning 1962-1972 to be available exclusively via Flight Deck. Taking longer to produce than the entire Decade series combined, the duo have painstakingly crafted a historic journey, across genres of an influential period that spawned artists like Aretha Franklin, James Brown, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles.
In April 2012, as Triple J’s Mix-Up residents, Lyell and Gruzman undertook a mammoth project, chronologising their favourite music across 40 years of history. Sharing four decade-divided mixes, starting from 1972, the mix series has since been played millions of times, globally, at dinner settings and house parties alike. Flight Facilities’ adventurous spirit and passion for crate digging is not only in the duo’s DNA, but is now highlighted across five mixes, spanning fifty years. The ‘1962-1972 Decade Mix’, will have a permanent home on Flight Deck. Stay tuned for the sixth instalment in 2022, which of course is already well in progress.
Since emerging with the celebrated global anthem Crave You in 2010, Flight Facilities have consistently defied sonic trends, staying true to crafting feel-good soundtracks that make people want to dance. The pair have risen to international fame, with cult hits, sporting multi-million online streams such as Clair de Lune, Down To Earth and Sunshine, and have worked alongside Kylie Minogue, Emma Louise, Reggie Watts, Owl Eyes, and more, on their Gold certified, twice ARIA-nominated, 2014 debut LP ‘Down To Earth’, and subsequent ARIA-awarded 2015 album, ‘Live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’.
Late last year, Flight Facilities entered uncharted territory, sharing the organic drums-led and spirit-lifting single, Better Than Ever featuring Aloe Blacc. Before that, the well-loved releases included Arty Boy (a 2017 collaboration with Brisbane’s Emma Louise, that sported an iconic, nostalgic nature of yesteryear pop), and Stranded (an expansive arrangement boasting an international dream team, consisting of Broods, Reggie Watts, Saro and instrumentation by Davide Rossi, Touch Sensitive and Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint.) The perfectly balanced, fragile melancholy, and electro pop of Need You followed, as did the glacially building brilliance of celestial single, All Your Love.
As the world enters an unprecedented era, Flight Facilities remain adaptable. From the studio, to the DJ booth, to live stages, featuring world renowned orchestras. In addition to attracting their own headline crowds, the pair have been global festival favourites at prestigious festivals like Coachella in America, Fuji Rock in Japan, and Bestival in the UK.
