Today, The English Rain premiere their new music video for their single, Baby Please. The song is taken from their recently released debut album, ‘Echoes Of You’. Baby Please is a harmony laden pop rock duet featuring Alister Bell who sang on The English Rain’s first two singles and up and coming singer-songwriter Cassi Marie, who also features on the album.
The song was written by Steve Boom and Tammy Whitelaw. Steve explains “It was written one morning as we were getting ready to go out. I picked up a guitar and started singing some ideas and Tammy, who was putting her make up on, started singing lines back to me. By the time we left to go out for breakfast, we had finished the song. When we arrived home, we recorded a demo which is very similar to the finished recording. The blending of Cassi and Alister’s voices brought the song to life.”
The live acoustic version filmed for the video gives the song a new light. ‘With this video we also wanted to add something a bit extra, so we filmed and recorded a live acoustic version, so that the fans had something slightly different not on the album version. We liked the idea so much we recorded and filmed 4 songs from the album acoustically, which we will release to compliment the album in the near future.’
The English Rain is a Brisbane based band, co-founded by Steve Boom and Neil Steward who met in 1983 and played in Brisbane bands like Nightwatchman and The Psychotic Iguanas. Influenced by bands like The Beatles, The Jam and Tom Petty, the band released My Town which was described as a “Streets of Your Town for the new Millennium” and more recently, the Beatles and Monkees inspired, She’s A Rainbow. The band explains “the goal has always been to try to write songs with strong melodies and hooks and we love jangly guitar driven pop songs”.
