“..judging by the quality of their debut single (SCHOLAR), I think we can safely expect plenty more quality tunes from COLU.”

Brisbane artist COLU returns today with dark hip hop track White Russian.
The self-proclaimed lovechild of The Weeknd and Allday, the song showcases COLU‘s evolution of sound since the release of ‘Nowhere Boy’ last year. Layered with atmospheric soundscapes and introspective wordplay, the song White Russian dips between ambient hip hop and alternative pop. The track is a lens on the psyche of the young artist and his exploration of life’s shortcomings.
“Themes discussed include a personal outlook on my career, the sacrifice that has come with it, the lifestyle of myself and those around me, social isolation, substance use, sex, difficulty falling in love and an inability displaying emotion.”, explains James Manteit.
Working alongside his friend Kieran Fergusson, the mastermind behind the mixing and production of COLU, the duo had a strong start since beginning in 2019. With their independent release of ‘Nowhere Boy’, the pair toured across Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne, and has amassed over 70,000 streams on Spotify since 2019 as well as a growing fanbase across social media.
With plans for more releases this year, there’s no stopping COLU as he begins to make his mark in the Australian hip hop scene.
