Building on the momentum of their recent single Baby Steps, Melbourne-based five-piece Plastic unveil Spider Fingers, the second single to come from their debut album ‘New Hands’ out through Spoilsport Records on September 29.
Spider Fingers is an enticing web of ear-catching melodies and noisy restless energy. Guitars swirl and snarl while a punchy rhythm section pushes forward gathering pace until the song is pushed to the brink. When it all seems too much amid fevered screams, Spider Fingers neatly twists back, arriving exactly where it started.
Accompanying the studio version is Spider Fingers Live at VCS, a live version of the song recorded in the band’s self-made studio. In the absence of physical events, Live at VCS demonstrates the dynamic performances Plastic are known for, skillfully ebbing and flowing through chaos and control.
Spider Fingers is out September 8 through Spoilsport Records. Available digitally on all platforms. Pre-order the album on vinyl or digitally here.
Baby Steps, the first single from the album was released last month, and has been met with favourable reviews.
“Instantly hooked in the herky jerky intro, quickly sold by the Garageland meets Pollyanna vocals, butt wiggling to the sturdy rhythm section. Yes baby!” – Mikey Cahill, The Age / Australian Music Prize Judge.
“…lopsided hooks and undulating rhythms that feel purposefully crafted to buck us off the pulse – there’s something fiercely compelling about the track…” – James Lynch, Trouble Juice
“For lovers of guitar pop that bounces, bends and occasionally bleeds a bit of psychedelic freak-out twinge, this is for you.” – The Corner Hotel / Northcote Social Club
