“A jangly slice of escapism”
“… a hazy wash of sound that showcases the group’s gentler side, while still having a black, black heart”
“A gorgeous composition complemented with the use of vibrant piano melodies, slick guitar lines, and the luscious vocals of Brooks Nielsen…”

The Growlers latest single Dream World released May 8, instantly went platinum on Spotify, with appearances on their New Music Friday, All New Indie, and The New Alt playlists. Today the Los Angeles-based beach goths they share the official video.

Directed by The Growlers’ long-time creative partner Taylor Bonin and starring Nielsen, the video imagines an alternate Southern California universe where the possibility of love is just a dream away. From Malibu to Hollywood to Chinatown (and of course, the beach), Nielsen’s character finds companionship in a world without people – except for one special friend, Heather the Doll, the latest addition to The Growlers’ surreal cast of characters.

“Coronavirus forced us to be creative,” said Nielsen. “We needed to tap into something and make our own dream world. I knew we were gonna get lucky. I’m just a believer in trying, and we had fun filming it together, cracking up but also pulling it off.” Produced by a skeleton crew of NielsenBonin, and their wives Melisa Nielsen and Steph Hulewicz, the Dream World video invites us all to embrace the other side, whatever that might be….

Recorded after sessions for their last album, 2019’s ‘Natural Affair’ LP, the new track imagines an alternate universe available to everyone, if you want it. Upright pianos, razorwire guitars, and singer Brooks Nielsen’s most prescient lyrics to date.

Long synonymous with the seedy, surfy, psychedelic communities of Costa Mesa and Dana Point, CA, The Growlers have evolved into a song writing and touring force majeure, courting Hollywood and collaborating with producers Julian Casablancas (The Strokes) and Shawn Everett (Alabama ShakesThe War On Drugs) to make contemporary pop music that plays as well at the dive bar as it does on the dance floor. Following a string of multimillion-streaming singles – like City Club (23.4m+ Spotify plays), Night Ride (26.9m+) and Dope on a Rope (25.9m+) – the band launched their ‘2019 Natural Affair World Tour’, from three sold-out shows at LA’s legendary Hollywood Palladium, to a month-long run in Australia and Europe.

“Where love is a treasure
That’s the world I choose to remember
Make a dream last forever
Close your eyes –
 But never surrender”
