The Gold Coast Music Awards has announced the inaugural Gold Coast Music Prize, a new initiative that will provide career-propelling opportunities for one established local artist each year, helping to accelerate their career and take their creative gold to the national stage and beyond.
“For five years now we’ve been completely floored by the amazing achievements of under-the-radar Gold Coast artists and we really wanted to do something to help people take their careers to the next level,” said Gold Coast Music Awards director, Chloe Popa.
“It’s a career-defining prize for one Gold Coast artist or group and it will be highly curated based on where they’re at in their career and what our judging panel thinks they’d most benefit from.
Every artist who nominates themselves for a Gold Coast Music Award is automatically considered for the Gold Coast Music Prize and we’re so thrilled to have Bleach* The Gold Coast Festival as our partner for this first-ever offering on the Gold Coast.”
With the winner announced at the beachfront gala event on 30 April, this incredible prize includes support from Bleach* The Gold Coast Festival and several other genre-specific Awards partners, as well as a marketing and PR packages from high profile media and sought-after publicists.
In addition, the winner will receive strategic grant, award and festival application support, and a full review of assets including biography, press imagery and digital presence.
It will also include a tailored mentoring package of one-on-one sessions with experienced and successful members of the Australian music and entertainment industry.
“Over the last nine years Bleach* has been committed to supporting local artists through creative developments, building the profile of local artists, mentoring and providing opportunities like the annual festival to showcase their work to a local audience,” said Bleach* The Gold Coast Festival CEO and Artistic Director, Rosie Dennis.
“It’s hugely important to keep our talent employed in their home town and support home grown artists by giving them a platform to tell their story in this city”.

Gold Coast Music Awards performers for 2020 are leading local acts, PACES, Tijuana Cartel and Felicity Lawless who will perform live at the illustrious beachfront event on 30 April.
If paradise had a soundtrack, PACES is curating it. Hailing from the shining Gold Coast, this dad and dog lover PACES – real name Mikey Perry – cloaks everything he does in happiness and explosive colour. With his electric live shows and fun music, PACES has received wide acclaim winning InTheMix’s prestigious ‘Breakthrough Artist Of The Year’ award (2016) with his debut album ‘Vacation’, enjoys regular radio rotation and has performed on Triple J’s Like A Version, with Australian music icon, Guy Sebastian, and at Australia’s favourite festivals.
Bringing world music to the Gold Coast stages, Tijuana Cartel has built a firm reputation for beats that span the globe. Multi-layered grooves, touches of slide and flamenco guitar, trumpet, Vocals and Afro Cuban Percussion mixed with some hardened electronica – it’s a combo that’s intriguing, energetic and utterly delicious! Constant touring here and abroad and an enduring love affair with live gigs give this band a very raw and electric energy.
Fiery, bohemian rocker, Felicity Lawless stimulates the senses and elevates the soul with music fusing Gypsy, world, rock and folk elements. Fusing world music and gypsy elements with folk and rock, her sound is characterised by a flashy, Spanish guitar style, soaring vocal melodies and hypnotic rhythms. Her band is comprised of amazing guitar and sound wizard Scott French and master of percussion Brennan Smith (both from A French Butler Called Smith) and bass groover Alex Elfes (Andrea Soler).
