Brisbane Unites Bushfire Fundraiser – The Mansfield Tavern – Saturday April 18
With our beautiful country burning before us, there has been a whirlwind of fundraiser shows popping up all over the country. There is nothing like live music to bring people together for a good cause. Brisbane has had its share of fundraiser gigs and there is more to come! Good Call Live are in full support of all these wonderful events, but one that is particularly close to our hearts is the Brisbane Unites Bushfire Fundraiser being held at The Mansfield Tavern on Saturday April 18.
All money raised from this special event will go to charity and one that is really important to the event organisers is the Bushfire Trauma/Mental Health Support gofundme set up by Magda Szubanski and Will Connolly. For more details on this and to donate now, click the donate button below.
Brisbane Unites features 28 bands from Brisbane and surrounds all banding together to raise funds for those affected by the horrendous and relentless bushfires. Over the next few weeks we will bring you a series of Q&A’s with some of the bands on the line up.
In this edition, we have the beautiful Mish Sha, frontwoman from Brisbane’s modern rock outfit, Torizon.
Torizon have a new single on the way soon, Find My Way Out. The song has been produced with Robb Torres (Trapt, Robbery Inc) and Capitol Records USA. Keep an eye on Torizon‘s social media for the release! They are also performing at Moondoll Music Festival on June 6th and will be announcing an international tour very soon!
Brisbane Unites – Bushfire Fundraiser is a pretty special event, not only is it for a good cause but the line up is a showcase of some of the amazing musical talent we have here in Brisbane. How does it feel to be a part of it?
We feel honoured to be a part of it given that Torizon is just over a year old. We are also really excited to play alongside and support many of our friends on the line up and make a great day of it! We actually just finished writing a song about the recent Bushfire Crisis called Burning Away and will be live debuting it at this event.
The event is being held at the iconic Mansfield Tavern. The venue has been huge for live music over the years and has hosted some huge names such as Violent Soho, Wolfmother, Grinspoon, The Offspring, No Doubt, Hunters & Collectors, Madness, Hoodoo Gurus, Skyhooks, The Angels, The Cult and the list goes on! It is great to see some live music happening there again! How do you feel about playing the venue? What does the venue mean to you?
This is our first time playing at the Mansfield Tavern and boy are we excited to grace the stage that so many iconic Australian Bands have! It is a milestone for to showcase our music here given we are a new band on the scene.
Music is one of the most wonderful ways to unite people, what does music mean to you? How important is it to use music as a platform to help those in need at a time like this?
Personally, music saved my life. As someone with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD), music has been my best friend in helping manage my mental health, particularly navigating through triggers and flashbacks. I just finished writing a song about experiencing an intense flashback recently..which I can’t wait to share soon.
As a platform, it has allowed musicians to take control of distress and situations which make us feel powerless by channelling those powerful emotions into creating something positive. It is a cathartic experience for both the creator and the listener. During the bushfire crisis, musicians from all over the world, at all levels of success generated an incredible amount of funding and awareness which speaks volumes (pardon the pun) about using music as a platform alone.
The line up for Brisbane Unites is absolutely full of talent. If you had to pick just one band to give a shout out and a plug too, who would it be and why?
We can’t pick just one so we will give you two. For The Wolves for their unique sound, incredible live performances and commendable songwriting. From Crisis To Collapse for their brutal riffs, high energy live shows, great songwriting chops and the messages behind their songs.
What would you say to someone to encourage them to come along to this event to support the bands, the venue and the cause?
The lineup is stellar and has something for everyone. You will be getting professional live performances by all bands with the high quality production Mansfield Tavern has to offer. You will be supporting two extremely important causes – The bushfire crisis for all affected and mental health for all living with depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD caused by the bushfires. If you or someone else is affected by these, come along to this show to help us raise funds to support those in need. Lastly, Brisbane’s heavy music scene is one big family to us and we would love to spend the day hanging out with everyone! Come say hello and have a beer with us.
