FLYYING COLOURS Return With New Single ‘Big Mess’

Flyying Colours have delivered a chaotic video for their new single Big Mess ahead of their long-awaited Australian tour which kicks off tonight in Brisbane. The track is a deliciously dreamy shoegaze number, peppered with nostalgia with a lo-fi video to match.

We join Flyying Colours in the kitchen as they make a Big Mess (literally) while showing us how to bake a cake. While we can’t vouch for the quality of the recipe (Nigella would almost certainly not approve), we can confirm Big Mess is a top tier slice of new music from the Melbourne act, with the single swiftly added to radio playlists across the country. The video premiered over at The Music yesterday and can be seen below.

“…Things escalated during the filming and we ended up covered head to toe in unbaked sponge cake” vocalist Brodie says of the video, “That’s what happens when you spend as much time with one another as we do and you have an opportunity to crack an egg over your band mates head.”

Following on from the low-key release of first single Goodtimes, Big Mess is the second taste of Flyying Colours forthcoming album, ‘Fantasy Country’, set for release later this year via their new home, bona-fide Melbourne institution, Poison City Records.

Flyying Colours‘ long-awaited second album is the product of a lengthy and challenging creative process riddled with all the cliched ‘difficult second album’ tropes. It comes four long years after the unexpected success of their debut LP and lilting psych pop number Long Holiday which endeared them to an international audience, the demands of which they spent the next olympiad attempting to satiate via a rigorous international touring circuit including St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, Primavera Sound, London Calling in Amsterdam and The Great Escape in Brighton in the UK.

Flyying Colours will add Austin’s famed SXSW to that impressive list this March, following their Australian tour which sees them revisiting stages in Brisbane, Sydney, Wollongong, Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne. Get in now while the rooms are small…
