Brisbane Unites: Bushfire Fundraiser – Q&A Series – Luke Suchowiecki – Nobodys Heroes

Brisbane Unites Bushfire Fundraiser – The Mansfield Tavern – Saturday April 18

With our beautiful country burning before us, there has been a whirlwind of fundraiser shows popping up all over the country. There is nothing like live music to bring people together for a good cause. Brisbane has had its share of fundraiser gigs and there is more to come! Good Call Live are in full support of all these wonderful events, but one that is particularly close to our hearts is the Brisbane Unites Bushfire Fundraiser being held at The Mansfield Tavern on Saturday April 18.

All money raised from this special event will go to charity and one that is really important to the event organisers is the Bushfire Trauma/Mental Health Support gofundme set up by Magda Szubanski and Will Connolly. For more details on this and to donate now, click the donate button below.

Brisbane Unites features 28 bands from Brisbane and surrounds all banding together to raise funds for those affected by the horrendous and relentless bushfires. Over the next few weeks we will bring you a series of Q&A’s with some of the bands on the line up.

In this edition, we have Luke Suchowiecki of Brisbane rockers, Nobodys Heroes. The guys have been on the Brisbane music scene since the 90’s and are still releasing new music. You can check out their latest video to their track Over You from their album, ‘Crash N Burn’ at the end of this article.

Brisbane Unites – Bushfire Fundraiser is a pretty special event, not only is it for a good cause but the line up is a showcase of some of the amazing musical talent we have here in Brisbane. How does it feel to be a part of it?

It is an honour to be a part of such a great cause, the hard work and determination shown by the Victims and the Fire Fighters themselves has been unbelievable, we were involved as a Band and a community in the devastating floods and were able to rally together and help each other.  As a band we have been unable to assist in helping with the fires so this is a great opportunity to contribute.  As of the other Bands, it is always great to see some of the local bands we love and to participate playing with other styles of music, there is some great camaraderie amongst these bands and we are proud to be part of the Brisbane scene.

The event is being held at the iconic Mansfield Tavern. The venue has been huge for live music over the years and has hosted some huge names such as Violent Soho, Wolfmother, Grinspoon, The Offspring, No Doubt, Hunters & Collectors, Madness, Hoodoo Gurus, Skyhooks, The Angels, The Cult and the list goes on! It is great to see some live music happening there again! How do you feel about playing the venue? What does the venue mean to you?

The venue will always be special to us, one of our best shows was at the Mansfield Tavern and I have seen some of Australia’s greatest bands there, so it goes without saying “The Mansfield rocks”

Music is one of the most wonderful ways to unite people, what does music mean to you? How important is it to use music as a platform to help those in need at a time like this?

To me music is up there with family, friends, work and all the important things in life, for me it binds it all together.  I can write about family, friends and work etc and it is all relevant to our everyday lives.  It can also enrich the lives of people who have been devastated, sometimes all you have left is a song to carry you, a message of hope to help you rebuild a shattered life.  On the other hand It can make you soar with the eagles and lift you so high nothing else can compare to it.  There are many of us out there who have said many a time, If it wasn’t for music, we would be dead or locked up.

The line up for Brisbane Unites is absolutely full of talent. If you had to pick just one band to give a shout out and a plug too, who would it be and why?

Piston Fist, I have known Geoff since the days we all started out together from the Wynnum and it is always great to see someone who has continually improved and not given up.

What would you say to someone to encourage them to come along to this event to support the bands, the venue and the cause?

Watch the news, documentaries, read the reports and get a real sense of what is going on with these fires.  People and animals are being displaced or dying, Firefighters are losing their lives trying to save these people and their properties, support workers are getting injured trying to save the Wildlife.  We have seen many tragedies before and have stuck together, so get off your asses do your little bit and get to Brisbane Unites on the 18th of April.
