SUPERGROUP brings together ‘Red Wiggle’ Murray Cook, Clare Bowditch & Jack Colwell to round out the Summer season!
Having just wrapped up the January edition of SUPERGROUP with a sold out show that featured Hottest 100 artist Adrian Eagle, art-pop singer Montaigne and surprise guest Tim Minchin, Georgia Mooney’s SUPERGROUP is today announcing the final list of performers for the Summer season.
Joining Georgia Mooney on the stage at the Giant Dwarf Theatre in Sydney on February 23 will be Australian musician, actor and radio presenter Clare Bowditch, Australian singer-songwriter Jack Colwell and very special guest Murray Cook from quintessential Australian group The Wiggles.
2019’s Summer series of ‘SUPERGROUP’ kicked off in November, bringing together Australian songwriters from all manner of musical and cultural backgrounds and putting them together on one stage for a live show like no other.
Seated in a semi-circle, the four songwriters go round the group, each taking turns to perform a song while the others join in beside them. Backed by an incredible house band (comprising Sydney’s best session players and surprise special guests) SUPERGROUP is one part chat show, one part comedy show and one part improvised chaos.
As one quarter of ARIA winning indie-folk band, All Our Exes Live in Texas, Georgia Mooney has circumnavigated the globe multiple times over, captivating the masses and penning songs and stories from every corner. In her own right, Georgia is a remarkable solo performer, continuing to add strings to her bow (or indeed, mandolin). Broadening her skills to include regular stints in radio, podcasting, storytelling and curation, SUPERGROUPcombines all of these interests and adds “dazzling host” to the list.
“SUPERGROUP came from an undying fascination with songs and the stories that accompany them. I never cease to be amazed by the quality and diversity of songwriting coming out of the Australian music community. We’re a small bunch but we certainly pack a punch!” said Georgia Mooney. “I wanted SUPERGROUP to bring together artists who may not otherwise have a chance to share the stage and see what magic they can create together.
SUPERGROUP also provides audiences a rare opportunity to gain behind-the-scenes insight into songwriting as Georgia interviews some of Australian’s most iconic musicians about their creative process, their inspiration, their experience and gains an invaluable insight into the art of the song!
Each night the line-up of the songwriters and house band changes, therefore no two shows are the same. It is an original, intimate, experimental and heartfelt musical experience that fosters and showcases Australian songwriting and connects the people who write songs with the people who love them – in a brand new way.
Part chat show, part concert, these shows are not to be missed.
With January’s edition of SUPERGROUP selling out well and truly in advance, punters are advised to get in quick to avoid missing out.
