Brisbane Unites Bushfire Fundraiser – The Mansfield Tavern – Saturday April 18
With our beautiful country burning before us, there has been a whirlwind of fundraiser shows popping up all over the country. There is nothing like live music to bring people together for a good cause. Brisbane has had its share of fundraiser gigs and there is more to come! Good Call Live are in full support of all these wonderful events, but one that is particularly close to our hearts is the Brisbane Unites Bushfire Fundraiser being held at The Mansfield Tavern on Saturday April 18.
All money raised from this special event will go to charity and one that is really important to the event organisers is the Bushfire Trauma/Mental Health Support gofundme set up by Magda Szubanski and Will Connolly. For more details on this and to donate now, click the donate button below.
Brisbane Unites features 28 bands from Brisbane and surrounds all banding together to raise funds for those affected by the horrendous and relentless bushfires. Over the next few weeks we will bring you a series of Q&A’s with some of the bands on the line up.
In this edition, we have Byron Short, guitarist, vocalist and a creative musical mastermind behind Brisbane Rockers, Sunset Junkies. Their stunning debut album, ‘Cosmos’ is out now – check it out HERE. The album is sure to take you on a journey, one that you’ll want to go on again and again. Sunset Junkies also recently landed number 26 with their track, Apollo & Dionysus, in the 4ZZZ Hot 100!
Brisbane Unites – Bushfire Fundraiser is a pretty special event, not only is it for a good cause but the line up is a showcase of some of the amazing musical talent we have here in Brisbane. How does it feel to be a part of it?
We were stoked when Geoffro asked us to get involved in this monumental event. We’ve played with and know and love a bunch of the bands on the bill and our drummer does sound for PistonFist and plays in Like Thieves so it’s like a big ole family reunion.
The event is being held at the iconic Mansfield Tavern. The venue has been huge for live music over the years and has hosted some huge names such as Violent Soho, Wolfmother, Grinspoon, The Offspring, No Doubt, Hunters & Collectors, Madness, Hoodoo Gurus, Skyhooks, The Angels, The Cult and the list goes on! It is great to see some live music happening there again! How do you feel about playing the venue? What does the venue mean to you?
The Mansfield is great. I’ve been playing there in the pub as a soloist for years and have been lucky enough to play the big room opening for Nathan Cavaleri a while back. Good to be home.
Music is one of the most wonderful ways to unite people, what does music mean to you? How important is it to use music as a platform to help those in need at a time like this?
I think in times like these everybody should use any means they have at their disposal to help shoulder the load. If you have money, give money. If you have time, give time. If you have skills, give skills. Music is what we have.
The line up for Brisbane Unites is absolutely full of talent. If you had to pick just one band to give a shout out and a plug too, who would it be and why?
The Automaton because they are legends and it’s great to see women kicking ass in the heavy scene.
What would you say to someone to encourage them to come along to this event to support the bands, the venue and the cause?
This show if packed full of amazing bands, you’ll probably discover a new favourite or two and you’ll be a part of an important movement in Australian music for a fantastic cause.
