After releasing critically praised singles It’s Ok and Way Back Down, Brisbane-based producer du0 has just revealed his double A-side release ‘Come Home | Better Place’ – featuring vocals from Emily Coulston and CLOE TERARE respectively.
The tracks are two gorgeous iterations of poignant house electronica, taking cues from contemporaries Set Mo, Cassian and Yotto.
du0 talks about the process behind the recording:
“All three of us (along with six other musicians) got invited to attend QMusic’s exclusive Songwriting Retreat, AMPLIFY, that took place over three days at Heliport Studios in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. We were rotated in groups of threes and had to come up with a song from scratch, then produce and record it in the 4 hours we were together. We did this five times over the three days and we were given a mentor in each session who helped us get this massive task done. These two tracks were born out of those sessions”.
Opener Come Home introduces elegant piano chords and snug woody percussion, before chanting harmonized vocal samples intertwine with the instrumentation. Reverb-soaked guitars bounce effortlessly across steadfast silky hi-hats, as Emily’s breathy vocals sink effortlessly into the mix.
This leads into the shimmering strings and sophisticated lead vocals of CLOE in second track Better Place. The chorus’s breakout with bounding bass and expansive synth soundscapes.
Previous singles have been strongly supported by the likes of Spotify, Pilerats, Acid Stag, Cool Accidents, Your EDM (USA), Run The Trap (USA) and have broken into the top 10 in Hype Machine’s esteemed Now chart. In addition, they’ve seen extensive radio support from triple j, triple j Unearthed, 4ZZZ, Radio Adelaide and a feature on Back To Back Radio w/ Willy Joy and Diplo.
du0’s songwriting has already received well-deserved recognition with an LA Music Award and as a finalist at the International Songwriting Competition.
In the coming weeks du0 will release accompanying remixes in support of the release.
