The Good Call Live Team are coming together in support of Support Act for #ausmusictshirtday … and we are doing it with a little help from our friends!
Next up we have a talented musician who is incredibly hard working and also just a super nice guy, Rashid AlKamraikhi.
Rashid is one of the main brains behind the SCHEMA Collective. SCHEMA is a team of local artists and musicians who have banded together to support their local music community. They aim to give all bands and artists a chance to unite and a platform to perform, especially those who are more underground or up and coming and would perhaps not otherwise get the chance. SCHEMA not only support their local music scene, they also support a long list of charities. There is so much more to SCHEMA than I could even begin to explain, and here at Good Call Live, we support them and all they stand for wholeheartedly. For more info click HERE.
SCHEMA Festival is coming up this weekend! A festival that Rashid and the team at SCHEMA have worked hard to put together. Over two days, Saturday the 16th and Sunday the 17th of November at The Valley Drive In, The Brightside and The Zoo, SCHEMA brings you a diverse line up of local bands and artists along with a few from further afield. With Windwaker, Void Of Vision and The Brave headlining. For more details and to get your tickets, head to the event page HERE.
In addition to his SCHEMA work, Rashid plays bass for two brilliant local bands, Dr. Parrallax and Massic. Now, if you live in Brisbane, like Heavy Groove Metal and InstroProg and have not heard of both or at least one of these bands, I would be highly surprised. We are big fans here at Good Call Live and highly recommend you check them both out now! Rashid also works as a stage manager at events like Brisbane’s BIGSOUND and is an artist too, creating posters and flyers for gigs and events. In fact, we are not sure there is much he can’t do!
Have a read of what the multi talented Rashid had to say about his choice of band shirt and the importance of talking about and supporting mental health in the music industry:
Remember – YOU can help support the cause too by donating to our Official, Support-Act endorsed fundraising effort HERE
Tell us about your Aus Music T-Shirt:
“I didn’t want to play favourites amongst the local crew so I thought I’d go for an ‘out of towner’. I had the pleasure of working with Lo! At BIGSOUND this year. They have a menacing sound that I love and their vocalist, Sam, transforms into an other worldly beast on stage. Off stage though they are the nicest guys. Goddamn sweethearts.”
Aus Music T-Shirt Day is a super important initiative in the Australian music industry. Why is it such an important initiative to you?
“Being part of the SCHEMA crew you know I’m ready to back any good cause and mental health has always been one of our main focuses. Support Act in particular focuses on providing help and resources to people in the music industry. Yes we get to experience some great highs doing what we do but that’s contrasted by many lows that can have a negative impact on our lives such as long hours and bad sleep patterns, financial insecurity, struggling to find time to catch up with friends and the strain that can cause on your relationships, and the hits you can take to your ego when you put yourself out there creatively just to name a few. It’s great to know that there’s a mental health organisation that exists that understands our situation what we might be going through.”
We know that mental health can slip under the radar in this business. Why is it vital to talk about your mental health?
“People generally like to deal with things in their own way, but that might not always be the best way. By maintaining an open and non-judgemental dialogue around mental health it helps destigmatise the issue and can expose people to different practices and services that are available even if they don’t want to talk about it themselves. It also helps to create an environment where those who are struggling can feel more comfortable in seeking out help from others if and when they need it.”
