Brisbane’s hottest new indie/electronic solo artist, GÜS, today releases his new music video for his debut single, Drowning. GÜS is the new solo musical venture for Angus Hayes (Gus & Jim, Blood Bank) The video is as delicate and soft on the eyes as the song is on the heart. The natural simplicity of the clip, the ocean, trees, road and train tracks, all symbolic of the natural depth of the song and lyrics.
“The Drowning music video was shot down in Byron Bay with my good mate Dane Scott. We met while he was filming for Winston Surfshirt and kicked off pretty quickly from there. The video was shot at a few locations around Byron and Tallebudgera on the Gold Coast. We actually managed to get all the filming done in a single day which was pretty full on! The car featured in the video is a beautiful old Holden Kingswood that the extremely generous Chris Matthisz lent to me for the day. Beautiful car but a challenge to drive! This was my first ever attempt at shooting a music video so we decided to go with a fairly simple performance-take style, and I think it’s pretty amazingly aesthetic (although 99.9% of that can be credited to the extremely talented Dane Scott). Anyway, I hope you all enjoy the video and be sure to check out my latest release Way You Make Me Feel (Feat. Silier) which has been blowing up in recent times!!” Güs xx
Drowning was performed, recorded and produced at GÜS’ home and then mixed by Angus Woodhouse at Glasshouse Studios.
GÜS explains some more about the song itself:
“Drowning was written at a time during which I had recently lost a loved one. I wanted to write about this but also didn’t want the listener to come away feeling upset having listened to the song. As a solution to this, I paired fairly upsetting lyrics, with an upbeat, happy melody. To the casual listener, drowning is a track that will get your body grooving, but there is deeper meaning to be found for those that look.”
GÜS is moving fast with his music and is one to keep an eye on as he delivers more emotive, ambient, electronic, groove along tracks for the pleasure of all his listeners. Stay tuned, this is only the beginning.
