Today, Brisbane’s sludgy desert alt rock party bringers, GUTTERFIRE! release their brand new video for their second single, For Hela and it’s a perfect glimpse into the wit and humour of the band as much as it is a perfect display of how seriously good these guys are.
GUTTERFIRE! have only been playing shows since February and in that time they’ve gone from small local supports, to having signed on for three festivals, scoring significant support slots for well established acts such as Electric Mary and Dr. Colossus and they sold out their first single launch a mere 4 months into proceedings. To say that 2019 has been good to them would be a bit of an understatement. But throughout the whirlwind of the last 8 months they have kept a razor sharp focus on exactly what it is that has thrust them into the public eye in the first place: the quality of their writing.
The band was very carefully and deliberately assembled by guitarist Az Stonely over the space of a year, without rushing and with a focus on combining exactly the right people to create a musical force that could stand out for its uniqueness and powerful songwriting. People have fun at their shows. The audience dances and smiles and they already know the words and sing along. Naturally new fans have been clamouring for more, which the band can only attribute to the fact that the five of them love the absolute hell out of making music together and give everything they’ve got to it.
For Hela is what’s next from the boys and as singer Photon Jon puts it “Yes, it is definitely a nod to Cate Blanchett’s Norse Goddess of Death in Thor Ragnarok”. “Because Death” might be a more literal title for it as the song carries a simple message around being and enjoying yourself without concern for what others think, because we all go in the ground in the end. This would be morbid, except that in true GUTTERFIRE! fashion the song is a fun romp through loud catchy riffs, thumping bass and some uniquely stellar drum work, with an accompanying clip that plays quite humorously with the concept as the song leaves you with a smile on your face.
The band will be launching the song THIS FRIDAY FOR FREE at Tomcat in Fortitude valley. Along for the ride will be equally fast rising stars RHINO as main support along with Wivenhoe, The Wretched Creatures and Canny & Hall. Doors are from 6pm, so get on down after work and ready yourself for what’s sure to be a night of HUGE mousy fun involving the famous cheese from the film clip you’re about to watch (which you’ll be able to have photos taken with) and as always, big fuzz, big riffs and music from and for the soul.
