Having evolved into one of the country’s most promising post-punk driven indie rock outfits, Byron Bay’s Seaside are today thrilled to unveil their latest single Joyride – the first single from their forthcoming debut record due out next year.
Fresh off a national support slot for West Australian rockers, Good Doogs, Seaside are set to embark on a national tour of their own in kicking off in October, presented by Front Row Artists, Young Henry’s and Afends. Next month, Seaside will also make their debut appearance at BIGSOUND, and with an ever-growing list of accolades, are a buzz act not to be missed.
On Joyride lead vocalist Darcy Dexter is done mourning love lost, offering a triumphant middle finger to a vindictive ex-lover by moving on and flourishing. Dexter recalls writing the song about “anyone who puts you down, and the strength it takes to leave a toxic situation”.
Earlier singles Golden Girl and Habits shone with the glow of heavy bedroom pop influence, with last release Sycamore demonstrating a slightly new direction for the band. Now Joyride adds a faster, post-punk tinge to the band’s already-diverse palette of sounds. Punchy guitar and blistering hooks take listeners down a new sonic path, showcasing Seaside’s versatility.
Joyride was recorded at Rocking Horse Studios with engineer Paul Pilseniks (Powderfinger, The Living End, Angus & Julia Stone), mixed by Konstantin Kersting (Mallrat, The Jungle Giants, WAAX) and mastered by George Georgiadis (Last Dinosaurs, Charlie Collins, Gang Of Youths).
