Brash, bone-rattling, yet vulnerable and plaintive, Kella Vee aka ELKO FIELDS’ new single I’m Only Human, premiered via Pilerats, shows off a captivating new side to the project. Paired with the announcement of her sophomore EP ‘4:44’ coming September, alongside the mammoth single launch show at Brisbane’s Bearded Lady, this forthcoming chapter promises to be the Brisbane act’s most exciting yet.
Following on from the full force of Arch Nemesis, I’m Only Human strikes with ELKO’s signature blend dark blues and garage rock n’ roll, made fresh with a surprising new twist of sensitivity and fragility throughout. Raucous guitar riffs ripple against a horde of brazen drum lines to create this simplistic yet wholly engrossing rock anthem, not dissimilar to the likes of Royal Blood and The Deaf Winter.
Recorded with Grammy Award winning producer Nick Didia (Rage Against The Machine, Pearl Jam, Powderfinger) the song showcases a melancholic side to ELKO FIELDS, particularly lyrically as she offers a peek into the fragility of life and the inevitability of death. “During the writing of the album I spent my average day in a nursing home, an environment that I had never contemplated to be a place of beauty love. In an unusually beautiful way, I was confronted with the concept of death on a regular basis during a time I was grieving from the loss and betrayal in a relationship,” Kella Vee explains.
ELKO FIELDS is Kella Vee (guitar/vocals), joined by The Medics’ Jhindu-Pedro Lawrie (drums/vocals) in the live setting, a powerful combination which makes for unruly performances. Since her debut EP in 2016, ELKO has seen praise from Pilerats, Brag, TheMusic among others, going on to support Alice In Chains, and even performing at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.
With the ‘4:44′ EP just around the corner, and a jaw-dropping video soon to match the track, be prepared for the new and improved anarchic rock injection.
