Following on from the release of his emphatic debut release Holy Hell earlier in 2019, Sydney’s Jackson Carroll has returned, this time brandishing an unapologetic, compelling new single in How Does It Feel?. Another indicator of the lush indie terrain Carroll is exploring on his forthcoming debut EP. How Does It Feel? is contemplative and raw in its delivery – both elements of Carroll’s thriving artistry.
The title of the song alone provokes self-observation, while the arrangement adds drama to Carroll’s rich vocal sways. Akin to the likes of Matt Corby, Ollie English and Alexander Burnett, Carroll’s hold on melody and rich depth makes the final result an immersive and emotional piece of music that wraps the listener up instantly.
“I always have to look at the song retrospectively – it’s one of the earliest songs I wrote and I hadn’t really experienced heartbreak or any kind of strained relationship when I wrote it. Things are different now… and it’s funny to look back at it and say ‘wow, I was pretty spot on with how I’d feel about the whole thing in the aftermath’” – Jackson Carroll
As Carroll’s sophomore release for 2019, ‘How Does It Feel?’ is a stride forward in an exciting chapter for the Sydney songwriter. Having spent 2019 working on new music and flourishing on live stages on the east coast, Jackson Carroll is fast becoming a name synonymous with genuine songwriting depth and musicianship. Already, Carroll has been garnering positive acclaim from the industry, his music likened to Jeff Buckley and Matt Corby, yet stirring excitement for a sound that is very much his own.
