From their earliest beginnings back in 2009, the past has seen Boss Moxi thrash their notorious live performance toward crowds in the grimiest of Brisbane alleyways and warehouses, as well as some of the most respected venues, events and festivals in Queensland and Australia making their music and performances synonymous with their heavily stylised visual content. Over the 10 years since their inception, the band has released an EP, funded their debut album ‘Oddball’ through Indiegogo, performed in nearly every venue Brisbane has to offer, gone on a short hiatus in 2015 and made a triumphant sold out return show at The Foundry in 2017.
Today Boss Moxi are happy to announce their ’10th Anniversary Show’ at The Triffid, bringing the full scope of the live band back together again, and they’ve just announced Requin as the first announced support for the night. Set to feature all the immense full-scale live show elements, fans should expect the unexpected. From aberrant on-stage visuals to immersive mid crowd performances, the anniversary event will showcase cuts from debut album ‘Oddball’ alongside Her Majesty (Out August 15th), the first taste of their forthcoming multifaceted narrative album ‘Egotoxin’, among other new tracks. The project features numerous new sections and instruments, lining up some of the most talented people from their hometown. Their live show will be a proper spectacle; a show that ignites all of the senses via lights, music, film and theatre!
The first single Her Majesty includes grooves that were written in Hampi, India. Alex and Doig drove 4 hours and back to a village to retrieve a dusty drum kit. “In a small hut on the seaside under the stars, some mad jams were had that night”, Brayden Doig(vocals/guitar) expands on the song, “Her Majesty, is a snapshot from one of the most energetic parts of the album. Much like ripping a scene out a of a feature film, pulling a single from this album that truely expresses the project as a whole was near impossible. But as far as it being true to Boss Moxi’s sound, “Her Majesty” certainly gives the listener a good taste of ‘Egotoxin’.”
Not just an album, ‘Egotoxin’ is the sophomore full length from Boss Moxi, and stands as the opening act for a stage called Yugen. Sixty minutes of continuous revolving and mind-poking music acts as the score to the dark, twisted story thrown across 124 pages of original graphic novel illustrations by the bands own Brayden Doig. Fans can expect to see a preview of this graphic novel at their upcoming anniversary show.
