Like a box of chocolates, with Sunshine Coast trio Forrest Run, you never know what you’re going to get! Returning with a vibrant concoction of pop, electronic, and folk, their third single Summer is a titanic welcome to the group’s forthcoming debut EP.
Pairing with Brisbane royalty Sam Cromack (Ball Park Music) for final production flutters, Summer is driven by radiant bass and drum lines, underlined by range of soaring vocal samples and chiming synth tones. Contrasting the up-beat sound with introspective themes of love and loss, vocalist Ayla‘s smooth melodies elegantly elucidates a seasonal relationship, and the ups and downs faced throughout. “The lyrics in ‘Summer’ are a portrayal of what’s going on in the beginning of a relationship, navigating the learning of each other and making the moulds of two different people fit together,” Ayla explains.
An abundance of creative influence, Forrest Run consists of hip-hop producer Judah Winnett, electronic folk instrumentalist Jayke Barnes and indie pop vocalist Ayla (who has seen national success with her own solo career).
Bursting onto the scene with debut release All We Needed, and following up with Let Me Fall earlier this year, Forrest Run quickly saw both singles added to triple j Unearthed rotation, accompanied by glowing reviews from the team. The group have since gone on to open for the progressive electronic duo BooSeeka, and are preparing for their own headline East Coast tour later this year.
With a debut EP and tour on the horizon, no doubt Forrest Run will be injecting their Summer positivity throughout many seasons to come.
Summer is out EVERYWHERE NOW.
