Brisbane’s hard rockin’ Ellis DeWald are pulling no punches lately. So far this year, they’ve released their brilliantly luscious new EP ‘City Black’ and celebrated with their EP launch tour. They’ve played a heap of killer gigs and are fresh off playing this year’s Grubfest. Plus later in the year, as well as playing a bunch of other great shows, they’ll be supporting rock legends, Danko Jones!
Today, they release a sublime new video for their latest single, We All Know and it’s so damn hot, you’ll want to watch it over and over again! The brilliantly put together video is a collaboration of creative minds and souls and just sings to the hearts of their fans and music lovers everywhere.
Frontman, Billy Boyle tells us about the concept of combining a rock song with a dance sequence:
“We knew this clip had to be about dancing. We don’t necessarily play tunes that scream ‘lets dance’, but every time we play this track, the floor lights up and people get their groove on. As soon as that first solo guitar riff comes in after the intro, everyone lets loose. It’s easily my favourite song to play live. Our original concept was a single frame shot that gave off the vibe that you’d set up your mum’s video camera in the corner of your room and were busting your best moves to watch later. But once Lucas got involved, he loved the track, and said he had an idea. So, we were thrilled to have him create the whole thing. We’re really happy with how it turned out. They’ve completely captured the energy of the track, musically and lyrically. I just hope everyone digs it, and you know – continues to dance to it”
The clip was filmed at sea between Alaska and Victoria, British Columbia and features the outstanding talent of dancers, Chris McCartin, Luiz ‘Little Boy’ Ribeiro and Lucas Granzotto-Martin. Luiz and Lucas were also the videographers for the clip and it was edited by Lucas.
Lucas explains how the trio came to work together:
“The three of us are professional dancers from all around the world who met on a cruise ship contract. We have been performing together for a little over 8 months and train in all different styles such as: Hip-Hop, B-Boying, Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Popping, Krumping and more.”
Ellis DeWald are Billy Boyle (guitar and vocals), Andy Brooka (bass) and Scott Fenn (drums). Originally forming in August 2017, all three musicians came from other bands (The Rared, Terror Parade, Somino) before finding each other and discovering the musical chemistry they could create together in the form of what was to become, Ellis DeWald. Heard the name before but can’t quite put your finger on where from? Well it’s thanks to Eddie Murphy and the bad guy from Beverly Hills Cop III. You can watch the scene on YouTube where Eddie famously and hilariously repeats the name Ellis DeWald over and over.
Whilst their name stems from a comedy, the Ellis guys take their music and the band seriously. Set for BIG things, your mate Ellis is only at the beginning of many amazing things to come!
