An incorruptible dream is the Sophomore EP release from Melbourne Based Songwriter/Producer Spectoral. He has worked with an impressive list of industry heavyweights to bring it all together, including Tim McArtney (George Maple, Touch Snesitive, and Flume}, Lause ‘Heavy Weight’ Hill (Pnau, Kilter, Monistry of Sound), Ben Feggans ( Ngaiire, Kite String Tangle), to name just a few.
The EP opens with the first single ’Movin On’, which is already receiving acclaim. From the outset Spectoral flaunts his beautifully sculpted song writing skills.
With an all to familiar story, of the struggle to get over an unrequited love, ‘Movin On’ is a well thought out introduction to an EP full of fantastic and meticulously written stories that draw you into his world, via a song list of relatable tales of love, struggles with the inner critic, and acceptance.
The sound is a beautiful melting pot of lo-fi textured hip-hop, electronic pop and RnB with a generous sprinkling of soul. I’m feeling the soul of Gallant, SiR and Daniel Ceaser all wrapt up with a side of Flume and RY X. Even though I make these comparisons, there is still something uniquely different about his sound, from his sultry vocals to synths that slide right into your heart along with the vehemently relatable lyrics.
I suspect Spectoral’s already steadily growing fan base is about explode with this release and I for one cannot wait to see it performed live.
An incorruptible dream was released on October 12 and is available from all the usual outlets.
“A bit of active child and sohn about this prime mover”- Declan Byrne, Triple j Home and Hosed
“He has a knack for creating complex, interesting sounds, but for me the most interesting thing about Spectoral is the emotive, poetic lyrics he writes. Sometimes electronic artists neglect that, but the strong emotional core helps anchor every song Spectoral releases, including my favourite track but his new EP, the single “Movin’ On.” It’s an honest exploration of unrequited love inspired by a friend’s plight, but the song has such heart that it’s easy to imagine he experienced all of the torturous yearning first-hand.”- Sounds_of_Oz, Triple j Unearthed
